The controversial national cybersecurity bill known as CISPA has received 248 votes “aye” votes, more than the 218 necessary to pass the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill still needs to be passed by the Senate and signed by the President to become law. The White House has said President Obama will veto the bill.

Take no false hope in the last sentence. Obama has threatened to veto, but only because the snooping authority is not given to his agency of choice – the DHS. He has his own version of privacy destruction drafted and waiting.

For the third time (SOPA/PIPA/CISPA), your Congressmen have openly and unabashedly violated their oath to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights by cowing to defense contractors and imagined threats to “national security”. The phrase itself leaves a bad taste in my mouth these days. The word “Orwellian” has never been more appropriate in actual history.

Ready yourselves to take the fight to your Senators, and prepare to vote them ALL out as they come up for re-election.

EDIT: I’m not the only one suspicious of Obama’s veto “promise”.

EDIT: Campaign For Liberty has posted the roll call from the vote.
